Symposium History
The Edward R. Murrow Symposium acknowledges exceptional achievement, celebrates scholarship, connects students to industry professionals, and provides a forum for exploring important topics in communication. Since the 1990s, WSU and The Edward R. Murrow College of Communication have honored leaders in the communication industry at the annual symposium, but long before the awards tradition began, the Murrow program was at the forefront of communication excellence. Beginning in the 1970s and continuing today, Murrow faculty and staff have hosted thought-provoking discussions of critical issues in communication, such as:
- The First Amendment and Broadcasting
- International Rights of Media News Flow
- Reshaping American Democracy
- The Information Society: The Ethical and Social Issues
- The Murrow Heritage: Challenge for the Future
- Ally or Adversary? The Press in International Affairs
